Project Loki aims to be the next game where you invest “thousands of hours,” combining elements from some of the most popular player versus player games.

Players have described Project Loki as a mix between League of Legends, Smash Bros., and Apex Legends, and the game wants you to experience it for yourself in a gameplay trial taking place from June 29th to 30th.

The great rival of LoL and Fortnite

The announcement video, presented by former League of Legends executive Joe Tung, showcases “pre pre pre pre alpha” footage of the game. It features squads of characters running through a vast map, engaging in combat with other player groups, and utilizing abilities and items to defeat them.

The comparisons to League of Legends are evident at first glance, as each moment feels like it’s taken directly from Riot’s classic battle arena.

However, the game also showcases some unique traversal options, chaining objects into abilities to leap over gaps in the terrain and even gliding through vast chasms (sometimes taking down enemies in the process, reminiscent of Smash).

The action also appears to be faster and more dynamic than that of League of Legends or Valve’s Dota, with more movement and a quicker time to kill.

Project Loki is the debut project of Theorycraft Games, a studio that describes itself as “very independent,” comprised of many former employees from Riot, Blizzard, and Bungie.

This collective experience could mean that the studio knows what it takes to create a highly replayable PvP game with constant support for its community: “a new competitive adventure for you and your team,” as Tung puts it.

If you’re intrigued and want to give it a try, you can sign up to participate in the PC playtest from June 29th to 30th.
