We’re all crazy about Threads. It’s understandable, with Twitter on the brink of collapse, an app that offers the same thing as the blue bird social network sounds interesting… but without Elon Musk at the helm. The problem is believing that Meta is the good company.

With big companies, there’s always a catch. You can sign up for Mark Zuckerberg’s new Twitter clone. And you can use your Instagram account to get a unique badge that shows you’re now a Threadhead.

The problem is that if you deactivate your Threads profile and delete the app, deleting your Threads profile will also delete your entire Instagram account.

The morning after the launch, users rushed to spot a clause in Threads’ Supplementary Privacy Policy that stated, “You can deactivate your Threads profile at any time, but your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account.”

Threads utilizes an Instagram account for accessing the app, although they remain two separate applications. Another part of the policy states, “Your Threads profile is part of your Instagram account and can be deleted at any time by deleting your Instagram account.”

Threads is just another app designed to collect your data

The competition to Twitter closely resembles Elon Musk’s application, but it is a data collector, and the current app seems like an absolute chaos.

Instagram’s director, Adam Mosseri, posted a video of himself in bed, stating that he had stayed up all night watching 10 million people sign up for the new application. Zuckerberg also reiterated that number in some of his posts on Thread.

Threads is a Meta application, and it certainly feels like it. The main feed is filled with content from people you don’t follow, showing you things that the algorithm thinks you want to see instead of what you actually want.

In addition to the lack of a “Following” tab, the current search function fails when it comes to searching for topics and is limited to identifying other users. In response to the complaints, Mosseri promised that both a dedicated feed for the people you follow and proper search functionality are “on the list.”

Similarly, Instagram’s Head of Product, Tom Bender, wrote on Threads, “We haven’t released the cool stuff yet!” If the “cool stuff” includes the option to delete your Threads profile without locking your Instagram account, it would be great news.
