Frank Herbert fans went crazy (myself included) when Dune was released in cinemas in 2021. The film, made by Denis Villeneuve, was liked by critics and audiences alike. On IMDb it scored an 8 out of 10.

Since then we have had to wait a whopping two years to find out more about the sequel. Because, as you may already know, the story is to be told in two parts (for the moment, it might be three, because Hollywood loves trilogies).

Dune: Part Two or Dune 2 has just released the first trailer for the film, after releasing a short teaser of a few seconds yesterday. Today’s trailer is two and a half minutes long and we already know what’s in it.

The Arrakis war begins

For this second film we have Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya as the main protagonists. As you can guess from the trailer itself, they will become lovers, it was written in the stars.

The heir to the House of Atreides will have the duty to unite Arrakis under one banner and fight against the Harkonnen, the ruthless noble house that ended the reign of Duke Leto Atreides.

In the sequel, Atreides teams up with Chani and the Fremen to take revenge on those who destroyed his family, and must juggle his love life with the fate of the universe at stake.

The trailer shows Paul on the back of a huge sandworm in the deserts of Arrakis, as Chani and the Fremen cheer him on. Also seen for the first time is a bald Austin Butler as Feyd Rautha Harkonnen, the nephew of Stellan Skarsgard’s Baron Harkonnen, and Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulen, the daughter of Christopher Walken’s Emperor Shaddam IV.

The trailer also announces an impending war, in which Paul, now blue-eyed due to his consumption of the Fremen’s mystical drug, will be in command of a huge army.

Dune: Part 2 also introduces newcomers Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, a Bene Gesserit, Souheila Yacoub as a Fremen warrior and Tim Blake Nelson. Returning to the cast alongside Chalamet and Zendaya are Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling and Stephen McKinley Henderson.

Denis Villeneuve returns to direct the film, although the screenplay is written by him and Jon Spaihts. It will be released in cinemas on 3 November 2023. By the way, the first film is available on HBO Max.
