If you’re old enough, you’ll remember Teletrébol, a machine with which you could interact while watching live Telecinco. It provided you with Arguiñano’s recipes, you could participate in contests and win prizes… It was so successful that even TVE had its counterpart with the Telepick. Now, Netflix takes the idea of enhancing the TV experience but adapts it to the new millennium: video games based on your favorite series and shows are here, whether you asked for them or not.

Game is blind

It’s not that Netflix hasn’t commissioned games based on its products before: for example, there’s a fantastic 8-bit game for ‘Stranger Things’ and a sort of RPG for ‘Too Hot to Handle’, but this is the first time they’ve launched an umbrella to promote their products by offering playable tie-ins. ‘Netflix Stories’ kicks off with an adventure based on… ‘Love is Blind’.

Yes, you read that right: the dating reality show. It turns out that its fifth season will be released on September 22nd, and the company has celebrated by launching a text-based game where you can fall in love, sabotage other relationships, and maybe even end up marrying the person you choose. For now, the initial images aren’t exactly promising, more akin to a cartridge for teenagers based on a Nintendo DS franchise than something with current gaming power. But perhaps it’s enough for those fans who just want to pass the time.

The game is completely free with a Netflix subscription, although, frankly, there are many other games like ‘Laya’s Horizon’ that you might do well to try before diving into the tumultuous waters of love. Apparently, after this one, Netflix is already planning new games based on “Money Heist” and “Virgin River”, which don’t seem to be competing for the GOTY alongside ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ and ‘Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’.

This is one more step for one of the world’s most popular apps as it ventures into gaming, something that is still in its early stages but, if their promised streaming on any computer succeeds, could be a new success within months. We can only hope that Netflix doesn’t take it as just a game.
