Few games have endured more trials than this. Truly, it’s not just a figure of speech, as among its woes are an office fire… and a war in its country. GSC Game World is an example of resilience, as good Ukrainians.
First announced in 2018 and publicly showcased in 2021, this survival horror shooter has been a long time coming, and it has not been without its reasons, as we mentioned.
A highly demanded sequel to a cult classic for PC, the development of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has been challenging, primarily due to how the Russian invasion of Ukraine has affected the studio.
A game that has been facing issues since 2018
Initially scheduled for April 2022, the game has been delayed multiple times. GSC Game World had committed to releasing it in the first quarter of 2024, but in a statement released on Tuesday morning, it was explained that it needed one final delay to finish the game.
Fortunately, GSC Game World seems to have renewed vigor to meet this release date. The Twitter post explained that the team understands that the core of the game is the zone explored by the players and that the game should be built around these harsh environments with tough gameplay.
The backpack system is also being redesigned to make item acquisition as smooth as possible, and extra time is being dedicated to polishing the technical issues that still persist.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be released for PC and Xbox Series X/S on September 5th and will be part of the Xbox Game Pass catalog from day one, like many other games. Game Pass has never been more worthwhile.
