WhatsApp has launched a feature in the latest version of its app that will allow you to automatically mute calls from unknown numbers. WABetaInfo discovered in March this feature, referenced in the internal files of the beta version of the messaging app.

As detailed by WhatsApp in a blog post, this useful feature will not ring any call from any number that is not saved in the phonebook and will hide the visual notifications. Even so, the muted calls will be reflected in the call history, in case one comes from a person you know.

To activate the function, you just have to go to the “Privacy” section in WhatsApp settings, select “Calls” and click on the option “Mute calls from unknown numbers“. With this function, you will be able to “automatically eliminate spam, scams and calls from unknown people to increase protection”, according to WhatsApp.

But this is not the only feature added in this latest version of WhatsApp. The messaging app has also added the “Privacy Check“, a step-by-step feature designed to inform users about the privacy and security options WhatsApp offers. To try it out, you will need to go to “Privacy” and click on “Start review”, which will allow you to see different levels of privacy protection with which you can reinforce the security of your messages, calls and personal information.

Two useful features in addition to those launched by WhatsApp recently and which seem to indicate that WhatsApp has been taking a closer look at its rival: Telegram. At the end of May, the messaging app began rolling out the edit messages feature, with which users can rectify typos without having to delete the message or send another one with the correction. In addition, WhatsApp launched a few days ago the “channels”, a feature that enjoys great success in Telegram.
