Helldivers 2 is being a monumental success. In addition to being an absurdly fun and extraordinarily well-designed game, it is a game that shows care and interest at all levels. Its developers have created a very interesting gameplay loop. And players have responded well to it.

The game is a satire where we embody a soldier in a platoon defending Super Earth from the attack of alien insects and robots. The interest is that the advance of these threats is real. If there are not enough people playing, getting involved in the appropriate missions, these creatures could invade Earth. Something for which a group of players have created the perfect tool: Helldiver.io, a website that shows the evolution of the war at any given time, and which sectors need more help. Something that allows players to get involved in the missions that will allow progress in the war against the Bugs and the Automatons.

In addition, Helldivers 2 is fully aware that this could happen. That’s why one of its developers acts as a DM, modifying the creatures’ statistics, creating surprise waves, and improving the game’s narrative to challenge the players’ organization. Demonstrating that their developers were aware that players would emotionally (and tactically) engage with the game.

This explains why Helldivers 2 has not seen a decrease in its audience since it was launched on February 8th for PC and PlayStation 5, but has continued to increase. Something that serves as a testimony to the extraordinary design that has led to defending democracy.
