Terrible news for Relic Entertainment (again). According to recent information published on the company’s LinkedIn, we have learned that the studio has carried out a new wave of layoffs.
To be exact, 41 developers from Relic Entertainment have been laid off in this round. Therefore, this amount should be added to the 122 already announced during the past 2023, which gives a total of 163 layoffs in less than a year.
We must not forget that SEGA sold Relic Entertainment just a week ago. Thanks to an external investment, the studio has managed to become independent, something that, as many of us suspected, would eventually result in some layoffs. Unfortunately, it has happened very soon.
This news of the layoffs at Relic adds to the long list of people who have lost their jobs in the video game industry this year. It is estimated that about 10,000 people have been laid off in just three months of 2024.
