Just a few hours ago, the Guardia Civil warned on its official Twitter account that a new WhatsApp scam was circulating. The goal behind it is nothing more than stealing the users’ own account, which means losing their profile and being able to impersonate their identity. Now, how do we know it is a scam and what can we do about it?

Although the Guardia Civil explains well what we have to do, the coincidence is that here the writer has received it. The scam starts with a simple message where someone pretends to be a member of the WhatsApp team. As is obvious, this already smells pretty bad, but this escalates to a higher level when this supposed employee directly asks us for the verification code. Here, of course, there is something wrong.

With the verification code they can get into your account, so do not give it to anyone under any circumstances. The criminals will tell you that your account has been stolen, that it is in serious danger and that the only way to recover it is to give that code. Calm down again: it is all fake; in fact, they are the ones who want to steal it from you.

The best way to avoid everything is as simple as blocking that contact and bypassing the shelves. The end. There’s not much more to it. If you’re wondering how they got to you, remember that your phone is circulating on the network, so to get into it they just need the relevant verification code. As long as they don’t have it, the criminals will not be able to access your personal account.

Generally speaking, we always say the same thing: never trust an unsolicited link. This will save you a lot of trouble, believe us.
