Secret Invasion is proving to be a subtle failure for Disney Plus. Marvel Studios’ latest series features Nick Fury as the protagonist, and he carries the plot on his shoulders. Throughout the first two episodes that have premiered, it has become clear that the threat the protagonist faces—the Skrulls—is incredibly challenging to stop. Furthermore, after being expelled from his position, Fury is left alone in the face of danger.

But not everything in Secret Invasion is tears. In fact, it’s a series full of plot twists and where it’s clear that in Marvel, you can’t trust anyone. But this not only increases the palpable tension, but also makes it clear that, despite the criticism, the series could become one of the best from Marvel Studios.

Nick Fury’s hidden relationship with the Skrulls

In the latest aired episode, Samuel L. Jackson‘s character is ousted by Colonel James Rhodes (War Machine) from his position as the head of S.A.B.E.R. This has left Fury alone against the Skrull threat that could lead to a Third World War. However, instead of taking action, he returns to the tranquility of home with his previously unknown wife, Priscilla.

The series makes it very clear that Priscilla is not a regular human, but rather another Skrull. With her, it becomes evident that anyone in Secret Invasion could be a Skrull, further emphasizing Fury’s connection to this species.

However, this opens up several possibilities for what could be the true driving force of the series… and could forever change our perception of Nick Fury. Here are several options that could be explored in the series, demonstrating that Secret Invasion still has great potential.

Nick Fury knows his wife is a Skrull

Despite the fictional implication that Priscilla keeps her Skrull identity hidden from Nick Fury, they have been together for over 30 years – as depicted in a flashback to 1997 when they first met – and as we all know, the leader of the Avengers is far from being naive.

The fact that he knows the truth about Priscilla, which aligns perfectly with the series’ protagonist, opens up many scenarios where Fury knows much more than the show’s audience… and that makes it even more intriguing.

Gravik is the adopted son of Nick Fury

Following this same theory, and considering that Priscilla has been shown as the undercover protector of Gravik, we could arrive at an even more interesting conclusion: Nick Fury is the adoptive father of Gravik. This would explain his distress when the agent leaves and fails to fulfill his promises to the Skrulls… it would be something more personal than it initially appears.

Undoubtedly, the fact that Nick Fury serves as the father figure to this Super-Skrull would give a new twist to the series and make this enemy, who seemingly came out of nowhere, a much more intriguing context than we initially thought.

But why would Nick Fury keep all this a secret? Well, Secret Invasion has already confirmed that the government has long been distrustful of the Skrull population on Earth, and they are unaware that there are now nearly a million Skrulls living on the planet due to Talos’ recruitment efforts. And if the government is aware of the Skrulls and the threat they pose, Fury would hardly be able to publicize the fact that he is married to one of them.
