The Chinese social media giant, TikTok, is facing very challenging months in the United States: the US Congress will vote on a bill this week that could ban the app nationwide. But that doesn’t stop TikTok’s fighting spirit in the world of apps.

The code detective AssembleDebug has revealed that several strings in the latest TikTok APK (version 33.8.4) point to the imminent introduction of a new social media app called TikTok Photos.

These strings promote the new application and indicate that there will be interoperability

A caption that says “Reach like-minded people who enjoy photo posts” seems to indicate that you will be able to quickly share a download link for TikTok Photos from the existing app.

Another series, “Share photo posts on TikTok Photos” and “Sync your posts on TikTok Photos,” aims to the possibility that you can publish still images from the main TikTok platform to the new TikTok Photos app.

The last string is perhaps the most interesting, as it reveals that “TikTok Photos will be launched soon” and that public photos uploaded to TikTok will be synchronized with the new TikTok Photos app if you have a certain option enabled.

Meanwhile, AssembleDebug has also been able to unearth some different formats of the home screen icon for the upcoming TikTok Photos app.

Use the same colors as the main TikTok app, but replace the musical note logo with a stylized “P” with what appears to be a printed photo around its top edge.

Although users can already share photos in the existing TikTok app, the interface leaves something to be desired, as images are grouped with videos in your feed. Having a dedicated app specifically for still photography could help them compete with Instagram.
