Twitter has announced that Kylie McRoberts, a long-time employee of the company, has taken on the role of security manager. Previously, the position was referred to as “trust and safety,” but Elon Musk removed the reference to “trust,” stating that it was a euphemism for censorship (let’s remember that he proclaimed himself a champion of freedom of expression on the Internet).

Starting this week, McRoberts will take on the unenviable task of ensuring “peace” in the app, while also following Musk’s directives on what should and should not be moderated, which really means censorship, who can and cannot be restricted, and so on.

Twitter has not had a security officer since June of last year, when the previous head of trust and security, Ella Irwin, resigned after Musk questioned her actions in restricting the reach of a controversial anti-trans documentary that had been published on the app.

As a curiosity, months after leaving Twitter, Irwin, who had initially defended Musk’s transformation of the app, said that working for Elon had been “the toughest experience I’ve had in my career”.
