Ever since The Lord of the Rings opened up the brand for more companies to explore Tolkien’s universe, video game libraries have started to receive more titles than ever related to TLOTR.
And while the latest Gollum game is an unparalleled disaster, and Minas Morgul looks truly terrifying, we now have a teaser for a charming game that many are eagerly anticipating.
This is the official trailer for Tales of the Shire, which provides the first glimpse of what we can expect from a new Lord of the Rings game by Wētā Workshop and Private Division.
Mark the date, 2024: we return to Middle-earth
The collaboration between Wētā Workshop and Private Division was first announced in August 2022, where it was shared that the teams would be working together on a game set in the Middle-earth universe, but this is the first glimpse of development we’ve had since that initial announcement.
The description of the teaser trailer suggests that Tales of the Shire will be a “new and heartwarming Lord of the Rings game” that promotes a “cozy Hobbit life,” so although the trailer itself doesn’t show gameplay footage, it’s expected that the content will bring to life a kind of life simulator set in the Hobbit world.
Throughout the brief trailer, we catch a glimpse of what appears to be a sketchbook, which could be a conceptual illustration of the characters and settings we will explore in the game once it’s released.
However, it might take a little while before we can enjoy this new life, as the trailer concludes by stating that the game will arrive in 2024. We know for certain that the game will be available on PC and consoles, but further details about the specific platforms haven’t been announced yet.
