The latest Marvel movie arrived in theaters last November and, despite its poor performance in theaters worldwide, now hopes to take off with its arrival on streaming platforms. And we’re not just talking about Disney+.
According to Marvel Studios on Twitter, the streaming release of The Marvels is for rental and purchase options, which means it will only be available to watch on video-on-demand (VOD) digital services, such as Apple TV+ and Prime Video.
It will arrive on these platforms starting January 16th, and its physical editions will land in stores starting February 13th.
A movie that was already looking bad before its release
Despite being an entertaining and fun addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), The Marvels failed to capture the audience’s attention on its release on November 10th.
In fact, the Phase 5 Marvel movie was the biggest box office failure in MCU history, with a global gross of only 205.6 million dollars. Considering that its budget was around 275 million dollars, it was a commercial and critical failure.
Actually, it’s not that the movie was a total disaster; it’s just the fact that it was another MCU movie and, as we’ve seen in the last two years, movie fans want something more from their superhero-based movies.
Where can The Marvels be seen?
As we have already mentioned, The Marvels will be available to rent or buy on Apple TV+ and Prime Video starting January 16th, that is, within a week, at the time of writing this, before its release on DVD and Blu-Ray on February 13th.
Is it worth watching? Some reviews say yes, although with reservations. A quick look at The Marvels’ Rotten Tomatoes page suggests that the audience enjoyed it much more than the critics, with an 82% approval rating from the audience and a 62% approval rating from the critics.
