Almost 800 reviews in just a few weeks. An average rating of 4.9 out of 5 (almost a perfect score) among user reviews. It’s not easy to achieve such a high rating with so many reviews, especially in this internet world where people criticize so easily and quickly, and praise doesn’t usually come to light. However, Rooms is captivating players (and designers) from all over the world.

Behind this iOS and web browser application (you can play it here), what lies is a really simple proposal. We have a completely empty room and it’s up to us to fill it. How? Well, that’s already a free choice for each player. Do you want books? Well, go ahead. Are you looking for a more minimalist touch? It fits perfectly too. Each one decides what they demand for their room.

Created by Jason Toff under the label Things, this video game combines the best of other titles like Minecraft or Animal Crossing, although it does so without any specific pretensions. In fact, its creator has pointed out that there are no monetization plans, even though the app is free. The idea is for the regular player to enter their room (or rooms) and be able to customize it to their liking. That simple.

With a beautiful visual style, where it looks like a 3D with a pixel art imprint, Rooms also stands out for the possibility of seeing the creations of other users. This way, we can witness what is being created at that moment and what each person’s room looks like. A way to invade their privacy (although shared, of course).

Rooms was updated to its 2.0 version just a few days ago. Its creator has promised great innovations for the future, so we just have to stay tuned to see what is introduced.
