WhatsApp will soon allow you to use two different accounts on the same phone, which will be very useful for those who use WhatsApp for work.
Mark Zuckerberg announced the plans on Facebook, posting: “Soon you’ll be able to have two WhatsApp accounts on one phone within the app,” alongside an image of the feature in action.
This doesn’t change the fundamental operation of WhatsApp. You still need a phone number to create a WhatsApp account, and you can only have one account per phone number.
However, this multi-login feature has been requested for years by people who have dual SIM phones and by those who have a separate work phone and don’t want to carry it around all the time.
It’s such an obvious addition that one wonders why WhatsApp took so long. The reality is undoubtedly more complicated, although WhatsApp’s Chinese rival, WeChat, already tested the possibility of creating two accounts with a single phone number in 2022.
The big question: when will it arrive? Android users should be able to enjoy this feature in two weeks, while iOS users might be concerned, as no arrival date has been mentioned at any point.
Steps to set up two phone numbers on a single WhatsApp
To set up a second account, you’ll need a second phone number and a SIM card, or a phone that supports multi-SIM or eSIM.
You just have to open WhatsApp settings, click on the arrow next to your name, and tap “Add account.” You can control your privacy and notification settings for each account.
With just these two steps, you can have your work number and your personal number on the same smartphone, on the same WhatsApp. No more carrying two phones with you.
