There is a tremendous eagerness to get our hands on the upcoming The Elder Scrolls game. Since its announcement back in 2018, we have hardly heard anything else about the game, but there’s a straightforward and logical explanation for this: all attention is focused on Starfield, which is set to launch on September 6th. Once the space epic is concluded, the studio will be able to shift its focus to The Elder Scrolls 6. However, we can already tell you that the game has a long way to go in terms of development.

Thanks to the ongoing litigation between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Xbox over the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, users have been able to learn more about the future of Bethesda and Microsoft’s video games.

When questioned about the release date of the sixth installment of the saga, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox’s gaming division, is quite clear about it: “We’re talking about a game that still has over five years of development.” These are Spencer’s exact words, so we won’t see this installment until at least 2023, and if we had to speculate, it could take another one or two years beyond that.

During his appearance, Spencer was also asked about the platforms on which the game would be available, considering that the new generation of consoles should be out by that time. In this regard, the head of Xbox stated that he “didn’t know” where the game would be released due to the extensive development time remaining.

The anticipation for TES6 is immense, but based on these statements, the best thing we can do is imagine that the game doesn’t exist yet, as the prospect of seeing it anytime soon becomes a chimera…
