Google has taken out the scissors and doesn’t intend to put them away. This week, the tech giant announced the layoff of 100 employees at YouTube, the most popular video platform in the world. These layoffs add to the hundreds of layoffs recently announced by Google in different departments around the world.

Google informed YouTube employees belonging to the operations and content creator management teams that their services were no longer needed, as reported by The New York Times, who had access to an email sent to the employees. The New York Times also reported that the layoffs mainly affect workers who provided support to YouTube content creators.

“We have made the decision to eliminate some features and say goodbye to some of our team members,” said YouTube’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mary Ellen Coe, in a memo addressed to employees. “Anyone in the Americas” and in the Asia-Pacific region “who is or may be affected will be notified by the end of today.”

This latest round of layoffs comes as Google is restructuring its organization. Last week, Google laid off “a few hundred” employees working on engineering teams and Google Assistant, without specifying the exact number (it is estimated to be nearly 1000).

In addition, Google’s Director of Business, Philipp Schindler, confirmed on Tuesday in another memo that it will eliminate hundreds of more jobs worldwide in the advertising sales department due to changes in Google’s sales team operations.

The wave of layoffs in the technology industry continues to sweep through. So far this year, Amazon, another tech giant, has announced a series of layoffs that affect several of its teams, including Prime Video, its streaming division for series and movies, and Twitch, the number 1 video game streaming platform in the world. Almost a thousand workers (at least) will lose their jobs at Amazon this year.
