The duo of Alex Garland (Civil War, Ex Machina) as a screenwriter and Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) as a director carried out two of the most remembered zombie movies of the century: 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. Now, they are about to return with 28 Years Later, which will be a trilogy this time.

The announcement made a big splash a few weeks ago, although we still have doubts about whether Cillian Murphy, producer of these new films and recent Oscar winner, will return in his previous role. We won’t know until the time comes, but the first faces of these new films have been confirmed… and they are very enticing.

British zombies are back

The three confirmed actors for the next 28 years later are none other than Aaron Taylor-Johnsonthe next James Bond?—, Ralph Fiennes —our trusted Voldemort— and Jodie Comer —famous, above all, for the spectacular series Killing Eve—. In addition, not only have they been confirmed as part of the team, they have also announced who will be the director of the second part: Nia DaCosta.

The filmmaker behind Candyman and The Marvels will be part of the second part of 28 Years Later, replacing Danny Boyle in his role. The idea is to film these two parts back-to-back, so they will follow a continuous story. We don’t have any information about the third part yet, but it will probably be confirmed soon.

While we wait to find out if Cillian Murphy will return to reprise his role, the truth is that we can celebrate in a big way that one of the most interesting zombie sagas is back. We haven’t had big cinematic blockbusters of the genre for years, but it seems they are going to come back stronger than ever.
