A modder creates a “hardcore mod” for Stardew Valley that deletes your game if you consult a guide
This time it's not a joke

The Internet is a magical place. If you’re a millennial or younger (because millennials are young, right?), it’s most likely that you struggle to make a “boomer” understand the meaning of practically any meme or mainstream joke you see on Reddit, Tumblr or Twitter. But the best part is that sometimes, these jokes become reality.
Last week, Hard Drive, a well-known satirical gaming news website (like El Mundo Today, you know) published an article joking about the inclusion of a hardcore mod in Stardew Valley, the popular farming video game by Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone. According to the “news”, this mod would automatically delete the user’s saved game if it detected that the player had opened the Stardew Valley wiki.
The joke (apologies for explaining it, but that’s how it goes) lies in the fact that checking the wiki is very common among players of a game with a huge amount of content (it’s time to stop, ConcernedApe), so if there was a mod that deleted your game if you consulted it, it would be, at the very least, “annoying”. Luckily, that kind of mod doesn’t exist, right?
The Hard Drive article quickly went viral among the gaming community, reaching the eyes of Sylvie Nightshade, a modder “who spends too much time on the Internet” (according to herself), and who ended up creating the mod imagined by the satirical media. Yes, her mod “will delete your save file if you dare to look at the wiki in a browser tab”. Yay.

The terrifying Nightshade mod “scans the title of every open window on your computer and deletes everything in your game if any window contains ‘Stardew Valley Wiki’ in its title”. But, far from just deleting your entire game (it’s nothing, no big deal), the mod “also closes the browser window where the wiki is located”. If you didn’t want soup, now you have two cups.
Knowing the “operation” of the Internet, I’m sure that this new mod for Stardew Valley will become very, very popular among the most hardcore fans of the game. However, if you’re going to try it, make sure to backup your saved games. Losing a game with a farm that generates 200,000 gold coins per day is not pleasant at all.
