A Steam game is breaking user records… because they confused it with another highly anticipated one
The Descendant is being confused with the shooter The First Descendant

There are surreal situations more typical of a comedy than real life. This is one of them. Let’s set the scene. Back in 2016, Gaming Corps developed a video game called The Descendant, a narrative adventure that had the seal of Microids in its publication. So far, everything is normal, as it is a game that had relative success and has not become a “cult” game. However, it turns out that this particular title is breaking all its own Steam records… because it was confused with another game.
To be exact, thousands of users—literally—are thinking that The First Descendant, the new shooter from Nexon that will be released on July 2nd, is this The Descendant. Therefore, they are downloading the game… but it is not the shooter they were expecting at all.
If we go to SteamDB, we can see that The Descendant had an incredible peak of players during the last 24 hours, reaching an impressive number of 115,832 players. Very few games achieve these numbers, which clearly shows that confusion has turned into curiosity to try the game.
The best thing about this is that any user can experience exactly what The Descendant has to offer. While the five episodes of the game cost about $16 in total, the first chapter is completely free. You just need to have a Steam account to be able to try it (after all, you are playing 20% of the title, which is not bad at all).
We don’t know if the developers will be happy or not—I would be—but the fact that a single word (“first”) has caused such a rush of players is funny.
