Ted Price, founder and CEO of Insomniac Games, has announced his retirement, effective at the end of March 2024, after more than 30 years in the video game industry. In his statement, Price emphasized that the time has come to “make way for others to pave the way” for the future of his team. Insomniac was founded in 1994, and although its first game, Disruptor, was well received, it was Spyro the Dragon (1998) that catapulted the company to fame. Since then, the studio has released numerous iconic titles, including Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, and the acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man series.

A person who sought excellence in work and social life

In the social sphere, Price gained recognition in 2022 for pressuring Sony to allow studios to make public statements about abortion rights in the U.S., contributing to the Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project with a donation of $50,000, an amount that was matched by Sony. This action underscores Price and Insomniac’s willingness to advocate for relevant social causes.

The leadership of Insomniac will transition to three co-studio heads: Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang, who have been key figures in the company’s development and have demonstrated a commitment to collaboration and transparency, core values in Insomniac’s organizational culture. Price expressed his confidence that this trio will do an excellent job in leading the studio to new heights.

Although he did not offer details about his future plans after leaving Insomniac, Price expressed his excitement about becoming a fan of the company’s video games, looking forward to enjoying their future releases without the pressure of looking for bugs. “I am ready to break that habit,” he concluded.
