Frenetic action and lots of shooting: that’s how we could define the essence of TimeSplitters, the acclaimed shooter developed by Free Radical Design. Now, an eBay seller has brought back the name of TimeSplitters in the most unexpected way.
In 2007, it was announced that the studio was working on a continuation for the saga, the highly anticipated TimeSplitters 4 at the time. However, the restructuring and subsequent closure of Free Radical ended all hopes of seeing a new game in the franchise. But, against all odds, we may be able to “get our hands on” a new TimeSplitters, more or less.
It all started on eBay. As reported by The Loadout, a Reddit user posted about a discovery they had made on the platform: a seemingly ordinary PlayStation 3. However, the truly interesting part was revealed when sliding through the photos that showcased the console.
Among the images, what appeared to be a prototype of TimeSplitters 4 could be seen. Curious, the Reddit user asked this seller about the origin of the console. His response was that “he had a friend who worked at Free Radical until November 2008”, practically a month before the studio closed. In case it is real, the redditor has committed to buying the PlayStation 3 and making said prototype public.
