Apple has announced the standalone sale of the new USB-C charging case for the AirPods Pro 2. This allows us to change the charging system of our headphones, but it should not be confused with the evolution we saw in them during the presentation event of the iPhone 15. Let’s talk about it.

A new charging system for our AirPods

The USB-C case for AirPods Pro 2, now available for $99 on Apple’s online store, offers us a significant upgrade as we can switch from Lightning to USB-C without completely changing the AirPods. For those who place their order today, the delivery of the new USB-C case is expected to be between December 27th and January 2nd, right after the Christmas holidays.

It is convenient to briefly review the release timeline of the AirPods Pro 2 to avoid overlooking a small but very important detail. After the arrival of these headphones to the market, Apple presented them again alongside the iPhone 15. The main novelty of the updated version of the AirPods Pro 2 was in the charging case, which, as we just mentioned, is USB-C.

But that’s not the only change that these headphones brought, because thanks to an internal update and a chip change, this new generation will allow us to listen to Lossless audio using the AirPods with Apple Vision Pro. So, buying the new generation of AirPods with USB-C case and buying the USB-C case for our existing AirPods Pro 2 are different things, something that we must take into account depending on our intentions.

What we will gain with the change of case, not headphones, is an improved dust resistance, with an IP54 rating. A small change resulting from the slight redesign in the construction of the charging case. One that, remembering what to do if only one of the AirPods works, we can now acquire to charge our headphones using USB-C.
