Armored Core Mobile Mission makes a surprise return after 20 years with a big but

The Japanese publisher G-Mode has surprised the gaming world with the return of Armored Core Mobile Mission, a title that had remained forgotten since its original release in 2004 for mobile devices.

This modernized version is now available in the eShop in Japan and will be released on Steam starting April 30, 2025, marking the return of this iconic series in a contemporary context.

Players will once again enjoy the classic experience of customizing their own ‘mecha’. With over 30 different parts, including body components and weapons, the ability to modify the appearance and colors of each unit promises a unique experience for every player.

The game will only be available in Japanese

However, the game will only be available in Japanese, which could limit its accessibility and require community translations for those who do not master the language.

Armored Core Mobile Mission will be released under the G-Mode Archives+ label, ensuring that while the essence of the original product is maintained, modern user interfaces and controls will be adapted to current demands, making the experience more user-friendly for today’s players.

Additionally, G-Mode has indicated on social media that they plan to release Armored Core Mobile 2 in the future, which raises expectations for the return of other titles in the series, such as AC Mobile Online.

However, the management of the publishing rights of this IP, which has existed since 1997, has been a constant challenge, affecting the creation of new installments.

FromSoftware has expressed its interest in continuing the Armored Core series, although the future of new titles remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Hidetaka Miyazaki’s team is working on The Duskbloods, a game exclusive to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
