Part of the success of Baldur’s Gate 3 is how flexible it is. It is a game where personal expression is not only important, but a key element of it, allowing each player to find a particular way to build the story based on their own interests. This is especially evident with the depth and importance of the character designer, which, even so, has room for some small improvements.

One of the most common complaints among the community has been the absence of certain races from the Dungeons & Dragons canon. Although the selection is quite extensive, with some rather unusual examples, many playable races have been left out of the game. Something that some players have wanted to solve with mods, and that a particular modder has taken a step further by dedicating special care to bring us a particular race: the Tabaxi.

If you’re not familiar with Dungeons & Dragons lore, this name won’t mean anything to you. Even if you are, you may feel confused. It’s normal. The Tabaxi are a race of feline humanoids created by the Lord of Cats. Belonging to the jungles of Maztica, they are one of the intelligent species of the Forgotten Realms, although it is true that they are not one of the most well-known. With a long history of being formidable warriors and rogues, but also a sad history of having been enslaved by other intelligent races, their popularity has increased after members of their species appeared in the movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

The work of including this race in the game comes from the Reddit user named coabalt_owl. Showing the final result of the male Tabaxi model, he has used a set of caracal textures to make a spectacular approximation to the species. However, it is currently only a beta version. His intention is to continue working on the mod, create the female version of the model, and include the possibility of turning our adventure companions into tabaxis.

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to be able to play as a charming anthropomorphic cat. According to CobaltOwl, the mod will arrive next month, April, on Nexus Mods, making it available to all Baldur’s Gate 3 players. Once again demonstrating the passions that this title arouses.
