Yesterday, we dropped the biggest news bomb of the year. After five years of speculation about its announcement, GTA 6 is a confirmed reality, stated by none other than Sam Houser, the president of Rockstar Games. If he says it, it’s as good as gospel.
GTA V was one of the most successful games of all time with over 185 million copies sold, but that doesn’t mean Take-Two isn’t concerned about the competition when it comes to GTA 6. It might sound absurd, but that’s how it is.
In statements to Inverse magazine, Zelnick said that Take-Two and its companies (like Rockstar Games) always keep an eye on the competition.
“We always look at our competitors,” Zelnick said. “We are terrified at all times that we’re not doing enough. There’s no one who says, ‘This is a perfect product, we’re very proud of it. Let’s take a deep breath and go to the beach.’ We have to get up and do it again, the next step.”
GTA 6 has to be better than GTA 5, and those are big shoes to fill
Before this, Zelnick talked about how Rockstar’s challenge with each new GTA is to surpass themselves. “It has to be something that has never been seen before,” he said. “And it has to reflect the feeling we have for Grand Theft Auto: that’s a huge challenge for the team.” Rockstar’s response is to strive for perfection. “Don’t settle for anything less than perfection, and we will achieve it.”
Although Rockstar has confirmed that the first trailer for GTA 6, or whatever the game will be called, will be unveiled in early December, there isn’t much more, at least in terms of official details.
Many wonder what kind of updates and advances GTA 6 could offer compared to GTA 5. While these remain a mystery, Zelnick suggested that technological advancements, such as generative AI, could help enrich the dialogues and interactions of non-player characters.
However, he did not confirm that GTA 6 will use generative AI technology specifically but spoke about it in general terms. This is something that can be further explored in another article dedicated to AI and GTA 6.
