Netflix has just released the official trailer for The Fall of the House of Usher, its new horror series that will adapt, in its own way, the horror story by American writer Edgar Allan Poe. As a mix between Succession and a spirit movie, it promises to be a new hit for the platform, and is that behind the series there is someone with a name and surname: Mike Flanagan.

The director of films like Doctor Sleep and Hush has been producing series exclusively for Netflix for a few years, but his contract is running out and he will become part of Amazon Prime Video. Before, of course, we will see his adaptation of Poe. But, so far, what are his best and worst series? Below, we rank them in order.

4 – The Midnight Club (2022)

The Midnight Club is the last series Flanagan has produced for Netflix and, unfortunately, it is also the least interesting of all the ones he has made so far. In fact, his idea was for it to have more than one season, yet it was cancelled by Netflix.

The story, which is about a mysterious mansion where young people with diseases go to forget everything and die, had potential. However, Flanagan failed to come up with the thrill and terror we all expected from his signature.

3 – The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)

After the great success of Hill House, Flanagan returned with a curse, this time the one related in Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw. The series, without a doubt, managed to imprint the elements that make the director great: emotionality, humanity, terror and bad feeling in equal parts.

Despite not being at the top, it is a very good series with sublime performances by its regular cast. Perhaps it is short on horror in favor of emotion, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be a problem.

2 – The Haunting of Hill House (2018)

The series with which he proved to be an incredible director is, for many, the best of all those he has made: The Haunting of Hill House. Flanagan adapted Shirley Jackson’s classic tale to his own ideas, and without a doubt it turned out to be something spectacular.

Undoubtedly, it is a rounded series in every way, although the ending divided many. Those who were expecting a lot of terror were somewhat disappointed, but those who were still hopeful that everything would turn out well were able to smile.

1 – Midnight Mass (2021)

This is a personal opinion, but I fervently believe that Midnight Mass is the best horror series that has been made in recent years. Mike Flanagan pulled out all the stops in this series and showed everything he could do portraying a suffocating place where religion crowns everything.

It’s best not to say too much about this series, as the potential spoilers are very, very shocking. I can only say go see it and don’t forget to go to mass first.
