Now, let’s take a look at some of the biggest announcements for gamers:

Roblox for PS4

Roblox is making its way to PlayStation. The announcement was made during the 2023 Roblox Developers Conference (RDC), revealing that the widely popular social and gaming app will be accessible on both PS4 and PS5 starting in October. The official release date, October 10th, was confirmed during Sony’s State of Play event on September 14th.

Roblox is already available on several platforms, including PC, Mac, iOS, Android, and Xbox. However, the absence of support for Sony’s consoles has been a notable gap in Roblox’s platform availability.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Bryan Intihar, senior creative director at Insomniac Games, provided fans with a detailed look at the open world of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Notably, the city that Peter Parker and Miles Morales can explore has significantly expanded, now including two more New York boroughs – Queens and Brooklyn.

The sequel allows players to seamlessly switch between the two superheroes and introduces a fast travel system for quicker navigation around New York City. The map has also received enhancements, featuring added AR-style markers and more objectives.

“In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we’re nearly doubling the size of Marvel’s New York. Expanding beyond the East River, you’ll swing and soar over iconic landmarks across Queens and Brooklyn – complete with story missions, side quests, and city activities! This expansion also means even faster traversal options such as the Web Wings, which can be combined with traditional web swinging to move at exhilarating speeds,” said Aaron Espinoza, the Advanced Senior Community Manager at Insomniac Games.

New story trailer for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

During Sony’s Fall State of Play, a new story trailer for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was revealed. In this game, you take on the role of a Na’vi who was taken by humans and raised as a child soldier on Pandora. Following the expulsion of humans from the planet by Jake Sully and the Na’vi, these former soldiers must reconnect with their Na’vi heritage, which involves linking their hair tendrils to various things. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set to arrive on PlayStation 5 on December 7th.

What is PlayStation State of Play?

Since its inception in 2019, Sony has used State of Play to unveil The Last of Us 2 release date, showcase gameplay for Ghost of Tsushima, and more. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to tune in to State of Play live streams for potential major announcements regarding new PS5 games.

“State of Play is our video program, showcasing all the latest updates, announcements and new trailers from the world of PlayStation,” says Sony.

The most recent State of Play took place on April 13, 2023, and was followed by a comprehensive PlayStation Showcase in May. The former was dedicated entirely to Final Fantasy 16, offering a 25-minute in-depth look at the game. Meanwhile, the latter event unveiled games such as Marathon, Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake.
