Borderlands 4, the latest release from Gearbox, is facing serious optimization issues in its PC version, which has sparked a wave of criticism among the gaming community. In addition to the technical problems the game has already experienced, there is a specific bug that severely affects character progression in multiplayer mode. This bug causes players who join as guests to lose all progress, reverting to level 1 with no possibility of recovery.

This bug has been widely reported on social media, generating significant discontent among users. According to testimonies, players participating in sessions of other players as hosts find that their skills and points are erased, which amounts to losing hours of gameplay. One user in particular documented their experience on Twitter, accumulating nearly 200,000 views, highlighting the magnitude of the problem.
Despite the development team claiming to be investigating the situation, there is still no official solution. Some players have suggested unconfirmed remedies, although they seem to work only in certain cases. Frustration has intensified, partly due to controversial comments made by Randy Pitchford, one of the lead developers, which have added tension to the situation. Factors like these have led to death threats against the team, something that has been condemned by other professionals in the industry.
So far, Borderlands 4 has sold 300,000 copies, but its reviews on Steam are mixed, suggesting that many users are left dissatisfied. The optimization issues and Gearbox’s handling of the situation have sparked a heated debate in the gaming community, which is hoping for effective solutions.
