There are artists who live by seeing their name in the headlines. From Salvador Dalí to Kanye West, many creators have lived hand in hand between their talent and how well (or poorly) they sell, leaving their controversies at the same level as their new releases or works. This is the case, in a much more humble and almost embarrassing way, of Cecilio G.

Cecilio G came to the limelight again, after almost a year of absence in networks, for rebuking some candidates of the far-right party Vox in Lloret de Mar. Along with another girl, he began to harass them for their presence on the promenade and, although many of us may agree with the basis of their complaints, the disproportionate attitude of the singer has made the campaign free to Vox.

You only have to take a look at the headlines of the media aligned with the party to realize that Cecilio G’s scene has been a candy for all of them. Moreover, if we take into account that less than a year ago he was in a photo with Ada Colau, leftist mayor of Barcelona, we have the headline made as if it were ChatGPT: “Who is Cecilio G, the young rapper friend of Ada Colau who has assaulted several members of Vox”.

Evidently, Cecilio G is neither a friend of Ada Colau nor has anything to do with politics. However, he is a perfomer who lives on controversy, and you only have to see some of the video clips of his songs to realize that it is in this area of illegality, controversy and morbidity where the singer is most comfortable.

Without going any further, in the video clip The Animals, the most viewed of his channel with 3.7 million views, we see an intro in the riots in Barcelona for the imprisonment of Pablo Hásel. And this is just one of the many examples we have of Cecilio G launching protest messages, anarchic and in search of revolution.

It’s basically his way of interacting with the music. Like his facial tattoos and his attitude, it’s the way he transmits and protests. And he is not alone in this: Cecilio G is just one more of the “street” trap trend, the first one that came to our country and the one that unites artists like Yung Beef, La Zowi or LFAM (Edu García’s group that went viral in mid-2010).

Despite the fact that most of the originals of this style have changed to end up having an impact on popular culture and the main networks, reaching great successes such as those of C Tangana, Pimp Flaco or Rels B, many others maintain the aggressiveness and the original revulsive spirit, as attractive for the young people who listen to them as repulsive for the rest.

Cecilio G is the maximum exponent of this, and although at a musical level he is not the most popular, without a doubt his controversial life beyond trap -he is only 29 years old- has made him be everywhere. In the end, these controversies only make his figure bigger and more people listen to his music… so, despite the craziness he represents, he’s not doing so bad.

All Cecilio G. controversies

Cecilio G has earned his reputation, and there are many controversies in which he has gotten himself into. Some more serious than others, but without a doubt they all make it quite clear who this character is.

The first one dates back to 2013, when he had already been releasing songs for a couple of years, although far from the success he would achieve later. This year he was accused of robbery with force, a complaint that ended up coming to nothing through criminal proceedings but that would cost him a lot two years later.

In 2015, he staged an incident in the Barcelona subway. Similar to what we see in the Vox video, he uttered major threats and carried out an assault, which meant, with the aggravating circumstance of the 2013 robbery with force, his entry into prison.

At the time, Cecilio G alleged that he had psychiatric problems -something he has been carrying for years- but his lawyer did not defend him as he wanted and the singer ended up accusing him of boycott and professional negligence. It is important to note that, at that time, Cecilio G had stopped taking his medication, and even so, he was sent to prison.

Once out of prison, he continued to make trouble and gain popularity. He even had a program in El País that lasted one episode -for obvious reasons if you watch the video- and continued to increase his fame.

In 2022 he was a guest artist at Sónar, and a few days after starring in the photo with Ada Colau that so many media are now eagerly moving, he starred in his biggest scandal to date. After a dispute in which he was accused of harassment -something that was later denied-, the festival agents tried to arrest him, but he began to attack them with everything he could find.

This is just the last controversial act of Cecilio G, which seems to indicate that he will continue on his way. If at 29 years old he has already done all this, you can imagine what his next acts will be like… and in the meantime we always have his music, which despite not being anything special, makes it clear that the artist is not fooling anyone.
