Peaky Blinders is one of the 21st century series that has had the most impact on popular culture. The fiction starring Oscar winner Cillian Murphy has captivated millions of viewers since 2013, and soon we will see its grand finale… on the big screen. After six seasons, director Steven Knight has announced that a movie will be made about the series starring, once again, Murphy.
Not many details have been revealed yet, apart from the fact that filming will begin in September of this year. However, we can gather all the information that has reached us so far to get a small idea of what this movie will be like. Below, we present everything we know about the Peaky Blinders movie.

When will the Peaky Blinders movie be released?
The release date for the Peaky Blinders movie is expected to be sometime between 2025 and, at the latest, 2026. Considering that filming will take place in September and there is usually a year between filming and release, we could be looking at the fall of 2025. However, everything will depend on the movie’s schedule and marketing needs.
The movie had been in preparation for years, since the sixth and final season of the series premiered in 2022. On June 30 of that same year, Knight said in Yahoo News the following: “It’s almost ready. And I’m going to shoot it in Birmingham; in Digbeth. And it’s going to be great. And it’s going to have Cillian [Murphy] and all the usual suspects. So yes, I’m looking forward to it.”
Now that the protagonist has been confirmed, the only thing missing was to set a filming date. And now that we know it will be filmed this year, it is most likely that at some point in 2025 we will be able to put on our berets and suspenders once again to enjoy the criminals from Birmingham.

What will the Peaky Blinders movie be about?
In 2021, when the Peaky Blinders movie had not yet been announced, Steven Knight said that “the line between cinema and television is blurry, or is blurry sometimes. I love making movies, but as I say, I think cinema can be based on the short story like television on a novel. I would consider making a movie that maybe is about the Second World War“.
This is something that has been confirmed later, so everything seems to indicate that we will see how these charismatic characters interact in such a tense environment as World War II. In fact, Knight already said in Digital Spy that his intention “has always been to redeem him so in the end he is a good man doing good things. Discovering how that journey happened, why it happened, and dealing with all the post-traumatic stress of World War I.” In this way, a new war is the perfect setting for it.
What we don’t know is the weight that the protagonists will have in this story. Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson) would be 49 and 52 years old respectively when the Second World War began, so they would not be recruited and it doesn’t seem like they will join the ranks. But surely the director will find an even more interesting way to place them in context.

What seems clear is that the movie will mark the end of Peaky Blinders. Already in the fifth season, Knight wanted to finish, but according to his own words, “I thought there are a lot of people we are going to introduce now. It would be a shame to stop”. This way, COVID came, one more season… and now everything seems to culminate in this feature film. The creator has his reasons:
“Part of the reason is not because we are going to change anything about how we do it. Hopefully, by the time this movie comes out, these things will be possible, the people who have made the series, the loyal and committed Peaky Blinders fans, could sit down and watch it together. Hopefully, some kind of community event, where people can sit, watch it, and enjoy it on the big screen.”

Who will return in the Peaky Blinders movie?
The first confirmed and most important actor of all is, of course, Cillian Murphy. The performer behind Oppenheimer already said at the time that he would put himself in the shoes of the band’s leader whenever asked. He knows that he owes a lot to the character, and it seems that he is going to give him a worthy ending.
The rest of the Shelby family is expected to return with him, including Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby) and Sophie Rundle (Ada Thorne), as well as the newly added Conrad Khan (Duke), Tommy’s son. Surely, Harry Kirton (Finn Shelby), who was expelled from the family, will also return, and it is expected that Sam Claflin (Oswald Mosley), who plays the fascist who has deceived Tommy in season 6, will also return.
Stephen Graham (Hayden Stagg) has also been confirmed, and somehow, Knight has said to prepare ourselves to see Polly, whose actress (Helen Elizabeth McCrory) died in 2021. Everything seems to be ready for the final great adventure of the Peaky Blinders.
