Charlie Brooker, the creator of the acclaimed series Black Mirror, revealed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that he worked on a distinct sequel to the interactive hit Bandersnatch. This project, titled Banderstruck, never came to fruition. In the same conversation, Brooker mentioned that the episode Plaything, part of the seventh season, includes characters from Bandersnatch, such as Colin Ritman and Mohan Thakur, although it is not a direct sequel to the film that allowed viewers to choose the protagonist’s fate.
Choose Your Own Adventure
Brooker was cautious in detailing the direction that the story of Bandersnatch could have taken, stating that it would unfold in a slightly different era and not specifying whether it would be another episode or a movie. However, he expressed interest in the possibility of returning to that narrative in the future, leaving the door open for new explorations within the Bandersnatch universe.
The episode Plaything, which is set ten years after Bandersnatch, follows the story of Cameron, a video game journalist covering the launch of Thronglets, a game that profoundly affects his life. Brooker, who worked as a video game journalist in the 1990s, wanted to tell a story set in that era, although he initially did not think of Plaything as a continuation of Bandersnatch.
The series Black Mirror has continued to surprise its viewers with its innovative storytelling, and with the inclusion of Bandersnatch characters in Plaything, fans hold on to the hope of a possible return to the world of interactive video games that was so prominent in the 2018 film. The seventh season of Black Mirror is now available for streaming on Netflix.
