Christopher Nolan is at the golden peak of his career thanks to winning no less than seven Oscars for Oppenheimer. The director of The Dark Knight is not only the highest-grossing, but he has also become a synonym for quality that all studios are vying for, and now he wants to make the most of it with his next project.

During the last few months, we have been confirming some familiar faces that will join the project, from Matt Damon to Tom Holland including Robert Pattinson. But so far, we didn’t know what the movie would be about… until now. Universal Pictures has released a statement that makes it very clear what this movie will be: “The next film by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey, is a mythical action epic filmed around the world using the new IMAX cinematic technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX cinema screens for the first time and premieres in theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026.”

An Epic Adventure Like No Other

The mystery is over. Nolan will direct a new adaptation of The Odyssey, one of the most famous and important stories of humanity that has transcended millennia to reach our days. It is, therefore, an unprecedented challenge, and a challenge that can elevate him even further to the pinnacle of Hollywood.

The plot of The Odyssey follows the dangerous and extraordinary journey of Odysseus, facing mythical creatures like the cyclops Polyphemus, the sorceress Circe, the goddess Calypso, and the vengeful Poseidon. It is a story that combines action, drama, and reflections on humanity, elements that fit perfectly with Nolan’s style, who has already explored similar themes in Interstellar through the idea of returning home and the bond between parents and children.

The cast, as mentioned, brings together some of Hollywood’s most prominent stars: Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong’o. Although the roles have not been officially confirmed yet, it is speculated that Damon will play Ulysses, Holland could be Telemachus, and Hathaway might portray Penelope. Nevertheless, the roles will be confirmed very soon. Additionally, there is already a scheduled release date: July 17, 2026.
