Cleaning is crucial with the in-ear design of the AirPods Pro. It might seem like a daunting task, but keeping them clean is quite simple once we know the right materials and tools, as well as what to avoid. Let’s talk about how to clean our AirPods Pro and their case to make them look like new.

Recommended materials and tools for cleaning

For effective cleaning, we’ll need some items like cotton swabs, dental floss, microfiber cloths, Blu Tack, isopropyl alcohol, and some type of disinfectant wipes.

What never to do when cleaning AirPods Pro. These headphones are quite resilient, but they’re not entirely waterproof.

  • Let’s not submerge the AirPods Pro or the charging case in water.
  • Avoid using abrasive tools or materials.
  • Don’t introduce water or objects into the charging case or charging ports.

How to clean AirPods Pro headphones

Let’s begin by cleaning the AirPods Pro with a clean microfiber cloth. If needed, lightly dampen it with water. As Apple suggests, it’s safe to use disinfectant wipes or 70% isopropyl or ethyl alcohol on both AirPods and AirPods Pro. However, make sure they are completely dry before putting them back into their case or in your ears.

Moving on to cotton swabs, notice that you can remove some cotton from a swab to create a more precise tool. You can also use dental floss to loosen and remove dirt from hard-to-reach areas, being careful not to puncture the grilles, microphones, or other components. In these areas, Blu Tack is excellent for removing dirt from the grilles.

The silicone tips can be washed under the faucet. Apple recommends avoiding soap or other cleaners, although you can use a disinfectant wipe if necessary. Ensure they are thoroughly and gently dried before reattaching them to the earphones.

How to clean the charging case of AirPods Pro

As before, we use a dry and clean cloth to clean the charging case. If necessary, we can lightly dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol or use a disinfectant wipe. Let’s pay special attention to avoid liquid and other objects from entering the port or charging contacts. Blu Tack is also very useful here to remove dirt from the outer and inner parts of the case.

If we find residue near the charging contacts in the case, it’s best to try a manual air blower first before resorting to compressed air. Ideally, let’s avoid inserting any object into the charging contacts to prevent damage, but if necessary, we could carefully use a cotton swab.

For the most extreme cases, just as we mentioned when discussing how to properly clean the straps of our Apple Watch, it’s probably best to visit an Apple Store for assistance. There, with the appropriate tools, they can help us restore our AirPods Pro to their original condition.
