In the world of video games, we already have franchises that have expanded over the decades. Some of them have wanted to develop stories, with a constantly growing cast of characters. This has led to some video games having convoluted and complex storylines to follow. Sometimes, to the point where we need summaries to understand what is happening.

Tekken is a particularly complex franchise in terms of narrative. With many non-canon endings, several games completely removed from the official story, and the story of some characters contradicting each other even within the same installment, it is a difficult story to follow. Not impossible, but it requires dedication and probably resorting to resources beyond the games themselves and how they tell their story. Something that Bandai Namco themselves are aware of.

That’s why they have hired Brian Cox to give a summary of the story up to the events of Tekken 8. Without going into too much detail, in five minutes, he puts us in the situation of the Mishima family conflict, the disputes between Heihachi, Kazuya and Jin, and why they keep throwing each other off cliffs. Something he understands. As expected, considering it’s Logan Roy. He knows well the conflicts of family successions.

Of course, many other aspects of the franchise are left out. It does not go into details about the Iron Fist Tournament or practically any of the other participants or their interests. But that’s normal. If it did, the summary would have had to last several hours.

At the end of the day, this is a brief summary to catch up on the basics and get excited about the upcoming release of Tekken 8. With a planned release date of January 26, 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC, it’s time to go all out. Because, as Brian Cox says, in Tekken 8, fists meet destiny.
