The new operating systems planned for this September, iOS 17 and watchOS 10, have brought with them very notable advances in the fitness field. We know that the ability to set concrete goals and keep an organized record on the calendar is essential to achieve greater consistency on the path to our health and wellness goals. This is where Apple Fitness+ personalized workout plans come into play and being able to use them and turn them into our ideal allies to meet our goals.

What are personalized exercise plans?

With the watchOS 9 update, last year Apple already offered us the possibility of creating personalized workouts in the exercise app. This new feature has been taken a step further with iOS 17 and watchOS 10, allowing us to design training plans tailored to our needs and preferences.

The main attraction of these plans lies in their adaptability: we can select the days of the week, the duration of the exercise (daily and weekly), the type of activity, the instructors, the music and the body focus, among other aspects.

Although this feature is intended for watchOS 10, Apple opened Fitness+ to work without the need for an Apple Watch last fall 2022. This means we can use it with an iPad, iPhone or Apple TV, which makes the proposition even more interesting.

How to design a personalized exercise plan

Designing a personalized workout plan in iOS 17 is really easy. The steps to follow are as follows:

  1. We open the Fitness app on our iPhone or iPad.
  2. We enter the Fitness+ tab.
  3. In the “Customized Plans” section we touch on Build Your Plan.
  4. We select the days of the week that we will dedicate to this exercise plan, the minutes that we will dedicate to each of those days and how many weeks we want it to last.
  5. Then we select the types of activity we want to include.
  6. We click on Review plan.
  7. For each exercise we can choose if we want to use equipment. Then by tapping on Trainers or Music we can mark our preference in that field.
  8. At the end we simply played in Crear plan.

Once created, our plan will be located on the main Fitness+ tab just below the “This Week” feature at the top. Each day we will find there an eye-catching green “Let’s Go!” button just below our daily routine to invite us to start the session.

It is important to note that only one personalized plan can be active at a time. If we want to create a new one or review the previous ones, we can find them at the bottom of the Fitness+ tab. It is also in that section, tapping on View plan and then on the button in the shape of three dots to edit the plan in Plan details or delete it to create a new one.

In the meantime, with our plan set up and running, we can rename it to be clear about our objective, change its duration, etc. When we finish it, the system will suggest us to go for a new goal with a new plan. Whether we are just starting out in a sport, have a complex routine for years or simply want to be clear about what to do every day in the time we have, programming is key.

Remembering to set achievable goals, all sports experts will recommend having a clear routine and being able to stick to it. With iOS 17’s personalized exercise plans, Apple offers us a powerful tool to adapt our training to our needs and preferences, giving us total control. Reaching our goals is a breeze.
