The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has conducted crash tests on the Tesla Cybertruck, awarding it an outstanding five-star safety rating. Maybe this will boost car sales, which are currently terribly low.
Despite the initial criticism regarding its unique design and some skepticism about its safety, the Cybertruck has proven to be a strong competitor in vehicle safety evaluations.
In the frontal crash tests, the Cybertruck received five stars for the driver and four stars for the passenger, indicating solid performance in this category. Notably, the vehicle not only met expectations in these tests but also achieved a perfect score in the side crash evaluation, highlighting its structural strength.
Problems with rollovers and the safety of pedestrians hit has not been investigated
However, the Cybertruck received a four-star rating for rollover risk, with a percentage of 12.40% in loss of control situations. This aspect has raised some concern among critics, despite the model meeting the performance criteria set by the NHTSA.
Despite its impressive rating, there is one area that remains unassessed: pedestrian safety. The unique shape of the Cybertruck, along with its sharp edges, has raised concerns about its behavior in a potential collision with a pedestrian.
In this regard, the NHTSA has indicated that it is working on new standards to assess the safety of vehicles not only for their occupants but also for other road users.
The Tesla Cybertruck, which is equipped with the same driver assistance system (ADAS) as other vehicles from the brand, has met the performance criteria for all active safety features.
As public perception sharpens and new regulations are implemented, the future of the Cybertruck in the market could be both promising and challenging.
