The crisis does not forgive. After a catastrophic closure in 2023, 2024 continues with more layoffs and company closures. Now, it’s the turn of Deviation Games, a team that was currently developing an “innovative original triple A IP“.

It was during the 2021 Summer Games Fest when the birth of Deviation Games was announced. This studio was led by two heavyweights of the industry, Dave Anthony and Jason Blundell. Both were former members of Treyarch, the team in charge of Call of Duty: Black Ops. Moreover, Blundell was responsible for the creation of the Black Ops zombies mode, which was later included in many games of the franchise.

Deviation Games had an agreement with Sony to develop a triple A title for the PlayStation division. However, the unexpected closure of the studio has ended up burying the project, of which neither the title was known.

According to what we can read on Neowin, the devastating news has been made public through a post published by Kriste Stull on Linkedin. Stull was the former Director of Human Resources within the studio and her message says:

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the entire team. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, and contribution to Deviation; I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked with each and every one of you.”

The truth is that for some time, there were certain indications of problems in Deviation. In September 2022, Blundell left the studio for reasons that were not fully clarified. Months later, specifically in May 2023, several members of Deviation were dismissed. At the moment, we do not know how many workers have been affected by the closure.
