Did you know that you can talk on the phone with ChatGPT for 10 minutes a month for free?

OpenAI has decided to grant all ChatGPT users on its free tier a 10-minute monthly preview of its advanced voice mode, and if you have the ChatGPT app on your phone, you can try it right now.

The advanced voice mode, which is normally only available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, allows you to talk to ChatGPT from your smartphone and have it respond with the voice of your choice.

You can ask it practically anything within reason and get a human-like response. In many ways, it is the natural evolution of the chatbot into something that seems even more futuristic.

This time it’s not Scarlett Johansson who provides the voice

It seems we have come a long way since the launch of ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode, back in May of this year, when actress Scarlett Johansson went to war with OpenAI over the use of her voice called Sky, which sounded very similar to her voice from the movie Her, in which she played an AI-powered assistant.

Although your time is limited, you have access to all the features of the Advanced Voice mode during those glorious 10 minutes, including the ability to choose a voice. In the current version of the Advanced Voice mode, you will find nine different voices to choose from, each with distinct qualities: Sol, Enebro, Valle, Abeto, Brisa, Árbol, Cala, Arce, and Brasa.

The advanced voice mode is a true step forward compared to the previous standard voice mode you would find in ChatGPT: it can sense and respond to mood, and you can interrupt it at any time while it is speaking.

Interestingly, once you choose a voice, you cannot ask ChatGPT to switch to another one. Instead, you have to go to Settings, which you access by clicking on your name at the bottom of the screen and scrolling down until you find Voice and clicking on it.
