The popular device teardown website, iFixit, has gotten to work on the new 15-inch MacBook Air. In their latest video, published this weekend, they uncover the updates hidden inside this model. Their biggest discovery? An interior design similar to its smaller sibling, the 13-inch MacBook Air, with a couple of “minor” changes.

Much more battery life, among other details

When Apple unveiled the 15-inch MacBook Air, some executives of the company shared insights into its hidden secrets. They emphasized their efforts to achieve the largest possible screen without compromising the overall user experience.

This is clearly evident in the teardown published by iFixit. The biggest innovation in this new model is its gigantic battery. The larger battery is necessary to power the 15-inch screen and ensure the same 18 hours of battery life that the MacBook Air lineup is known for.

The 15-inch MacBook Air features a 66.5 watt-hour battery, consisting of one large cell and four smaller cells. This represents a significant increase compared to the 52.6 watt-hour lithium-polymer battery in the 13-inch model. With this configuration, Apple achieves a balance between screen consumption and the size of the battery required to power the system. The result is the intriguing 15.3-inch diagonal screen size.

Beyond that, as we can see, Apple has slightly reorganized the components, primarily to accommodate the new redesigned sound system. In this larger version, Apple has opted for a six-speaker system instead of the four-speaker system found in the 13-inch model.

While there are details that escape our notice during the teardown, such as the type of adhesive used to attach the screen to the chassis, which now serves a structural function, it is always fascinating to see the inner workings of Apple products. As Steve Jobs mentioned on more than one occasion, they strive to make their products beautiful both inside and out.
