Do you remember The Gentlemen (2019)? In this Guy Ritchie film, which was a box office success, we saw Matthew McConaughey transformed into a top-level English drug lord. In the movie, his character tries to sell his empire to a dynasty of billionaires from Oklahoma, but things go wrong along the way.
Well, now we know that The Gentlemen is going to have a spin-off on Netflix directed by Ritchie himself. Also titled The Gentlemen, this new series will once again focus on the distinguished but dangerous world of drugs and organized crime in England. In this way, it will serve as a kind of update of Peaky Blinders, maintaining all its elegance and brutality.
Discovering the underworld of drugs in England
The Gentlemen is scheduled for March of this year, and will tell the story of Eddie Horniman, a man who becomes the Duke of Halstead after unexpectedly inheriting his father’s vast estate. To his surprise, the property comes with a gift: it has an incredible cannabis empire that drags him, whether he wants to or not, into the criminal underworld of England.
Although he tries to keep his family out of it, soon Horniman will have to take control of his new big business, thus entering a spiral of crime that will lead him to firsthand experience the lowest depths of English criminality.
The protagonist of the series is none other than Theo James, whom we know well for his role as Four in Divergent and for his hilarious role in the second season of The White Lotus. Alongside him, there will be a stellar cast: Ray Winstone will be Bobby Glass, founder of the drug business; and Kaya Scodelario will be Susie Glass, his daughter and leader of the day-to-day operations in the company. Several other actors join the project: Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, Chanel Cresswell, Michael Vu, Max Beesley, Jasmine Blackborow, Harry Goodwins, Dar Salim, Pearce Quigley, Ruby Sear, and Peter Serafinowicz.
