The streaming platform SkyShowtime arrived in our country without much fanfare, but since its launch, it has been consistently bringing in interesting series that have caught our attention. The best example of this is The Offer, the drama based on the making of The Godfather that captivated audiences upon the VOD service’s arrival. However, there are many other standout series on the platform, and one of them has just emerged: Django.
Freshly premiered with its first episode, Django is a weekly series that draws inspiration from Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 film Django to tell a similar yet distinctly different story. It also takes cues from Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, although its influence is more prominently linked to Corbucci’s original version.

The story of Django follows a man seeking revenge in late 19th-century Texas. His mission is to find the men who murdered his family, but he soon becomes entangled in a larger cause that stems from his own thirst for vengeance.
In the first episode, we witness Django’s arrival in New Babylon, a desolate town situated in the middle of a crater. It is there that he begins his quest to find the killers of his family, only to discover that his daughter Sarah is there and has survived the crime. The problem is, much time has passed since then, and now, on the verge of marrying the town’s founder, she wants her father far away from the scene.

Django, far from giving up and as SkyShowtime states, “will do everything in his power to earn his daughter a second chance. Meanwhile, Django, Sarah, and John find themselves entangled in a web of dark secrets destined to come to light.”
Undoubtedly, Django seems like an interesting twist on the original film, yet it captures all the original ingredients to retell a timeless revenge story. However, don’t expect something very Tarantino-esque, as his film was indeed a highly stylized and loosely adapted version of the same story.
