If there’s one thing Sony has made clear by now, it’s that their Spider-Man movies without Spider-Man are not as good as they expected. Beyond Venom, which continues to draw people to the theaters, they already had a big stumble with Morbius and now they’ve had it again with Madame Web. The movie has been vilified by critics, lowering its scores to become the worst rated of the year, and it hasn’t performed well at the box office either.

However, it is not the only flop we can see in 2024. Another highly anticipated film has just been released in theaters, but it is receiving extremely negative reviews from critics. We are talking about The First Omen, the prequel to Richard Donner’s The Omen, released in 1976. Although it was highly anticipated, it has received a C rating from Cinemascore, a very low score despite being a genre, like horror, that usually receives bad ratings.

Goodbye to the hype: The First Omen crashes in criticism

In fact, according to Cinemascore itself, the movie has received a lower score than Madame Web. The latter received a C+, so we are talking about it being considered superior to the horror film. The only movie that has ranked below The First Prophecy this 2024 is I.S.S., a not very well-known science fiction film.

On the other hand, we also have to say that The First Prophecy has not received such bad scores on other review aggregators. On Rotten Tomatoes it has received a 78% —compared to 68% from the audience—, and on Filmaffinity it currently has a 6.6. Therefore, it may not be as bad as it seems in the end. But, either way, it doesn’t seem like this new installment of The Prophecy has generated the expected excitement.
