For many, it is the game of 2024, the true candidate for GOTY that at the end of the year will raise the statuette at The Game Awards. But not everything is good news for Capcom’s Japanese game.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 seems to have thrown all that goodwill overboard gained with so much effort, as Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been released with “mostly negative” user reviews on Steam after Capcom apparently added a series of “pay-to-win” microtransactions following the game’s release.

At the time of writing these lines, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has over 5,000 negative user reviews on Steam, and the vast majority of them focus on the game’s new microtransactions.

You are charged for the fast travel, for editing the character, etc.

These articles can be found on the game’s Steam page, and each one of them is related to a feature that is usually included in a game at its launch.

For example, despite claiming that the game would not have fast travel before launch, Dragon’s Dogma 2 now gives you the option to purchase a Portcrystal, an item that can be placed at the destination of your choice and can be quickly traveled to using a Ferrystone.

Many people are also angry about the fact that Dragon’s Dogma 2 does not allow players to change their appearance without finding or paying for a Metamorphosis Art.

To make matters worse, some players have reported that Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t even give them the option to start a new game if they don’t like their character. You can try deleting your save file, but there are reports of players claiming that, when deleted, it is replaced by the accessible cloud save of the game. Right now, the only way to change characters is to find or buy the necessary item.

Other items that have been added to the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Steam store are Awakening Stones, necessary to resurrect NPCs before they disappear permanently, and Rift Crystals, the currency that players use to buy special items and hire Pawns.

It should be noted that most of these items can also be found in the game, but their addition as microtransactions has irritated a fan base that was previously excited.
