At this point, it’s not news that a video game gets updated. It happens constantly, and usually comes with a new season pass, a paid skin, or, if we’re lucky, a couple of bugs fixed. Perhaps that’s why what happened with the 2016 ‘Ratchet and Clank’ is so beautiful, which was released for PS4 and was last updated in 2021… before today’s surprise.

It turns out that when the game was released back then, it came with the typical pre-order unlockable. In this case, the Bouncer, a weapon that launches a grenade-style bomb that separates into several smaller ones that bounce until they explode. And if it sounds familiar, it’s because it’s a classic item in the saga that debuted on PS2. The thing is, in order for players to feel that it was a truly exclusive prize, it had remained only in that small group of first-time buyers.
However, James Stevenson, director of community and marketing at Insomniac, has managed to give it away to everyone, even if it’s five years later than he would have liked. So it took a while, but hey, if you always wanted to say “I have ‘Ratchet and Clank’ complete”, now is your moment to turn on the PS5 and play it again. The good part is that, indeed, it’s a great game, so there won’t be much need to encourage you.
