The Harry Potter stars have grown up. The starring trio of actors have managed to fight the broken-doll stereotype that reigned in Hollywood and have carved out great careers, both inside and outside the world of film.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have continued to appear in numerous shows and films, without neglecting their personal lives. Recently, we learned that Radcliffe became a father for the first time, while Grint continues to work on the series Servant. On the other hand, we haven’t seen Emma Watson for a long time.

The actress has been voluntarily away from the industry for the past five years. Her last appearance on the big screen was in 2019, with the film Little Women. In Greta Gerwig’s film, Watson was seen playing Meg March, the eldest of the March sisters and one of the main characters.

Now, the actress’s name is back in the spotlight thanks to an interview with the Financial Times. Here, Watson explained in depth the reasons behind her decision to step away from the cameras: “I wasn’t happy or being honest […] what was very difficult for me is that I had to go out and sell something that I had very little control over”.

The actress was very “frustrated” at having to talk about films in which she had no creative involvement. To add fuel to the fire, the big promotional tours and what went into them weighed more heavily on her than it might seem. He explains that one of the most demanding was the promotion of Beauty and the Beast, a tour that took him all over the world.

Where has Emma Watson been all this time?

Despite her absence from the big (and small) screen, the actress has not been sitting on her hands. She began collaborating with the Renais gin brand, owned by her brother Alex, who has a wealth of experience in the spirits sector. Here, Watson is putting aside her acting in favour of the entrepreneurial role. Emma is also a major shareholder in Renais, where she works as creative director.

Business aside, Watson has also shown great interest in being behind the camera. One of her first forays has included writing and directing a campaign for Prada, for which she is also the face of the brand. The performer has also revealed another of her upcoming projects: directing the music video for a well-known artist.

Even so, Watson plans to return to film, but on the condition that she waits for the right project. The actress is clear: she does not want to feel like a “robot” to be directed in films she is not passionate about.
