The penance is about to end. Blasphemous 2, the highly anticipated sequel to one of the best-selling Spanish games of recent times, is finally releasing this week. Officially announced at Gamescom 2021 with a simple teaser, the new creation from the Seville-based studio The Game Kitchen comes packed with novelties and promises to be a major hit.

What type of game is Blasphemous 2? What genre does it belong to?
Blasphemous II is an action-adventure video game of the metroidvania type. The metroidvania genre is characterized by exploring a world to find powers and abilities that allow the player to access new areas that were previously inaccessible.
While the first part of Blasphemous had certain metroidvania elements, it wasn’t until this second installment that The Game Kitchen went all out to bring us a pure metroidvania experience that will captivate fans of games like Hollow Knight and of series like Metroid and Castlevania (the pioneers of the genre).
What is Blasphemous 2 about? What is its story?
In Blasphemous II, we will once again take on the role of The Penitent, the last survivor of the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow, wearing an outfit that includes a helmet, which also functions as a mask, featuring a large metal capirote and a crown of thorns.
Armed with the sword Mea Culpa, our mission in Blasphemous was to end the influence of The Miracle, a deity as mysterious as it is fearsome, over the land of Cvstodia. Although we did everything we could, at the end of the last expansion of Blasphemous, it was hinted that The Miracle would return like Terminator.
And so it has come to pass. The story of Blasphemous 2 begins right after the conclusion of the free DLC “Wounds of Eventide” from the original game, where (spoiler alert) the Heart in the sky announced the return of The Miracle and prophesied the birth of a new miraculous child.
Awakened in a new and strange land, displaced from his final resting place, The Penitent is once again thrust into the endless cycle of life, death, and resurrection, with no choice but to explore this dangerous new world and uncover its long-forgotten secrets.
Will Blasphemous 2 have Spanish dubbing upon release?
The first Blasphemous was released with only (impeccable) English dubbing, a factor of great importance to expand its reach in international markets. Later, when time allowed, The Game Kitchen released one of the most significant updates for the game, which included, among many other things, a masterful Spanish dubbing.
After falling in love with the performances of top-notch voice actors and actresses such as Alfonso Vallés, Claudio Serrano, and Inma Font in the first part, this time we won’t have to wait, as Blasphemous II will be released with Spanish dubbing from the start, enriched with that Andalusian accent that we liked so much.
What is the release date of Blasphemous 2? On what platforms will it be released?
Blasphemous II will be released worldwide on August 24, 2023. It will be available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, the studio has confirmed the game’s release for the previous generation consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One), although there is no specific date at the moment.
Blasphemous 2 marks the return of a saga that captured the hearts of both Spanish and international audiences due to its captivating story, dark atmosphere, intense action, and masterful soundtrack.
