Pirate fans are in luck. It’s not just that Monkey Island has made a comeback after many years of the franchise seeming dead and buried, but also Sea of Thieves is sailing the treacherous waters of gaming smoothly, approaching the islands of the legendary Lucasfilm Games saga with a favorable wind. But what exactly will this collaboration bring us? The developers of Sea of Thieves have given us a glimpse of what we can expect from this partnership.

Following the course of three new Tall Tales, Sea of Thieves will invite us to visit and explore some of the beloved locations of Mêlée Island and interact with iconic characters from the franchise, including the legendary Guybrush Threepwood himself. Throughout The Legend of Monkey Island, we will solve puzzles, battle adversaries, and overcome unexpected challenges to fix situations that have gone strangely awry and confront ominous dangers from both this world and the other. This will sound familiar to fans of both Monkey Island and Sea of Thieves.

As evident, the developers have emphasized that this will be a particularly humorous experience, emphasizing the comedic aspect of the game. However, they assure that the love for the franchise and the personality of Sea of Thieves will be present throughout this new expansion.

The Legend of Monkey Island will be available for free to all Sea of Thieves players, starting with the first of the Tall Tales on July 20th. The remaining Tall Tales will be introduced at a later date yet to be determined. In the meantime, grab your sword, your wide-brimmed hat, and that bottle of grog you’ve never opened, and get ready to personally meet the heroes of your childhood in an adventure that promises to be one of a kind.
