Few games can boast of having created such a solid fan base as Five Nights at Freddy’s has. Since its launch in 2014, the title conceived by Scott Cawthon has not stopped expanding its universe through multiple games over the years (even with a movie included).
Ruin, the recently released DLC for Security Breach, comes to add fuel to the fire and introduces new elements that come to shake all the known history of FNAF.
What will we see in Ruin?
WARNING! From here on you will find many spoilers for Ruin. If you haven’t played it yet, please refrain from reading any further.
During the beginning of the DLC we see Cassie entering the Mega Pizzaplex, abandoned and in ruins. From the start, it’s clear that Cassie’s main objective is to find Gregory, a new character we haven’t seen before. The Pizza Plex appears quite neglected and it looks like it was abandoned a long time ago.
As usual in FNAF, the animatronics start to give us a good scare. After barely getting through the place, we run into a Maskbot that offers us the VANNI mask, a kind of augmented reality helmet. From here, we alternate between the real world and the virtual world thanks to Cassey’s Helpy implant and VANNI’s mask.
MXES, Ruin’s villain?
The Ruin DLC has several endings, although the first one is the correct one. This is when we discovered that the entity chasing us throughout the game was an antivirus called MXES. This was designed to keep Mimic at bay and without realizing it, we had been deactivating it throughout the game.
And what exactly is MXES? To sum it up, it is a security system created by Gregory and Vanessa to contain Mimic. Thanks to the technology, Mimic managed to survive, even with the Pizzaplex reduced to rubble. In the end, he used what he had left (his voice) to manipulate Cassie while pretending to be Gregory to shut down the Entity. This allowed Mimic to eventually regain full control of the system that had trapped him.
